David Shneer

David Shneer, Director of the Program in Jewish Studies, Louis P. Singer Endowed Chair in Jewish History, and Professor of History was recently awarded the 2013 Jordan Schnitzer Book Award from the Association for Jewish Studies for his book Through Soviet Jewish Eyes: Photography, War and the Holocaust. The judges, who selected Professor Shneer's book for the category of Jews and the Arts, called his work "a ground-breaking study" that is "meticulously researched" and which "opens new directions in social and cultural history and the history of the Holocaust, and demonstrates the importance of photography and the arts in our understanding of Jewish history." Professor Shneer will be honored at a special reception at the upcoming AJS conference in Boston.
